Hot Tip of the Day: hotels.com's New and Improved Price Matching Policy
Yes, you read that right! Are you excited? I sure as hell am!
This new hotels.com price matching policy seems to have quietly rolled out over the last few weeks.
Let's Recap The Old
Previously, if you had booked a room with free cancellation, you could price match at any time. If you had booked a non refundable room, you had up to 7 days after the initial booking to price match. In both cases, the difference in room rates were then credited to the card you used when booking.

You can still price match a room with free cancellation at any time and receive a credit to your credit card. However, now you can also price match a non refundable rate at any time. But, in the case of a non refundable rate, instead of receiving a credit to your card, you will receive a credit to use on the hotels.com website.
Challenge accepted! Honestly, I haven't been this excited about something in a while!
I personally price match the hell out of my hotels.com bookings. My rule is if I save at least $7, I'll call and price match. In hotel booking season for me, I call them sometimes 3-4 times a day. They probably secretly hate me!
As I mentioned in a pervious blog post, there are lots of places around the web from where you can price match! First, I usually google the hotel and put the date range into the google sidebar that pops up on the right. That will pool the prices from a bunch of sites. Some sites that I check often are Expedia, Agoda, Air Canada Vacations, booking.com, CTrip and then hotels.com again to see if their own rate has dropped. In my experience, most of my price matching for hotels comes from the Agoda or the rate dropping on hotels.com.
You can also submit a price watch request on any hotels.com hotel by using the sidebar on the right of the page. This way, you will get an email with weekly updated on your hotel rate. Important note: A hotel rate can change many times in the span of a week, so checking back frequently is still the best method. Consider the price watch the lazy way. Not that you're lazy, of course!
To request a price match, all you have to do is contact them and tell them where to view the exact same room for cheaper, elsewhere. You can call them or email them a screen shot. I like to call because I'm impatient and want my money back pronto! But I'm a little type A on a good day, soo...
