Settling Back in After Months on the Road
A Little Reflection
The last several months of 2016 were hectic.
In 3 months there were 15 countries, 32 cities and probably a hundred or more flights. I arrived home on December 30th, and to be honest, all I've wanted to do is Netflix and sleep.
I still haven't done laundry (shame, shame) and I'm in a semi-vegetative state once I return home from work each day. (How do people with kids get through life??)
Work has been a bit insane, because in 10 days, I'm taking off to Africa. I need to snap out of my coma and get my arse moving! Work has been filled with business shipping lists, logistical planning and trips to African embassies to sort out visas.
I was panicking that I wouldn't get all of my visas in time, but things are looking up, after Nigeria surprisingly came through in record time!
I should tell you about the last time I visited Nigeria. I might finally be ready to tell that story. It's a dozy!
Am I Ready to Hit the Road Again?
Hell, yeah! After a week in the Ottawa cold, I'm ready to jump ship. And after all of this time, I still get excited about hotels, airline points and passport stamps. I suppose that's a good thing in this line of work.
My next trip isn't taking me to any new countries, but I'll be returning to Uganda after not visiting for a few years, so that's exciting!
And, for the first time ever, I'm overnighting in Rwanda, for a few nights. I usually only just get a short afternoon trip to Rwanda between Tanzania and Ethiopia (how crazy is that?). I'm hoping to have the opportunity to explore a little.
I'll be visiting Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, with a short touchdown in Toronto on my way home for a birthday celebration with some dear friends.
Thanks for all of the love and support in 2016! I've got some big ideas, if I can coax myself out of my vegetative state and get to work! Happy adventuring to you all in 2017!
